Welcome to Week 3 of our Summer Challenge. Our focus this week is on your brain's attention span and its internal mental notepad: Sustained Attention and Working Memory.
Keeping focus from evaporating when a task gets boring is incredibly hard work for a neurodivergent brain. If your family struggles with this, the good news is that cognitive endurance is something we can intentionally scaffold and build over time. Here is how our team put these skills into action this week.
Skill 1: Sustained Attention
Definition: The capacity to stay with a task despite fatigue or boredom.
Why it matters: It builds cognitive endurance, training the brain to find dopamine in slow-moving tasks rather than just short-form videos.
Ed took a completely offline approach to training this skill by breaking out a massive, complex LEGO set. Long-term projects like this require following multi-step visual directions over hours, not minutes. By sitting with a huge pile of pieces and building brick by brick, Ed practiced pushing past moments of friction and sticking with a slow-burning project.

Skill 2: Working Memory
Definition: The ability to hold and manipulate information in your mind while doing a task.
Why it matters: Working memory is a finite resource. Instead of forcing the brain to hold more data, we want to practice offloading it to protect mental bandwidth.
Tabitha hit her own working memory ceiling this week, so she handled her to-do list by writing individual house tasks on Post-it notes. Attempting to mentally juggle a long list of tasks causes immediate brain fog and executive dysfunction. By throwing those tasks onto physical sticky notes, she built a face-up, externalized system. This protected her limited mental bandwidth by moving the project out of her head and into her physical space so she could see exactly what to prioritize next.

Your Turn to Play
How did your family work on building focus endurance or using tools to offload information this week? Whether you are setting up a complex puzzle on the living room table or using sticky notes to map out your day, we want to see it.
The Logistics:
Show Us: Share a photo on Instagram or Facebook and tag @TGDCoach, or email your picture directly to our team.
Explain the "Why": Include a quick note on why your activity counts toward that specific skill so we can see the science translate.
The Reward: Collect all 12 skill stickers by the end of the summer to be automatically entered to win a free coaching session.
